Cameroon Seeks Greater Self-Sufficiency in Domestic Gas Supply.

Beyond Gas Cylinders: A Supply Chain Challenge.

The domestic gas issue goes far beyond the availability of gas cylinders. It involves the entire supply chain, including storage capacity, distribution networks and the ability to respond to disruptions in the market.
There is a need for stronger infrastructure and investment to ensure a more stable supply of domestic gas without forgetting difficulties affecting the sector and the intervention of the Hydrocarbon Prices Stabilization Fund (CSPH).

Kumba Gas Center: A CFAF 6 Billion Investment
One of the projects expected to improve supply is the construction of a CFAF 6 billion LPG storage and filling center in Kumba, in Meme Division, South-West Region.
The foundation stone was laid on 29 April 2025 in Barombi Kang by the Minister of Trade, Luc Magloire Mbarga Atangana.
The facility is the fifth of its kind in Cameroon, following those in Maroua, Bertoua, Bamenda and Ebolowa. It is expected to have an initial storage capacity of 200 cubic meters on a five-hectare site, with construction scheduled to last 24 months.
The project is expected to contribute to addressing gas supply difficulties in the South-West.

Securing Energy for Cameroonian Households.
For millions of households, domestic gas remains an essential source of cooking energy. Ensuring regular and affordable access is therefore both an economic and social priority.
The authorities and sector stakeholders face a broader challenge: strengthening supply infrastructure while addressing the difficulties encountered by the Société Camerounaise de Transformation des Matières Premières (SCTM).
As Cameroon seeks greater energy self-sufficiency, investments in storage, distribution and supply infrastructure could play a crucial role in making the domestic gas market more resilient and better equipped to meet growing household demand.
